ToyChamp - 23 toy shops throughout the Netherlands
Johan, regional manager of ToyChamp in the Netherlands, is responsible for the shop image, staff and stock of 20 ToyChamp shops in the Netherlands. He is, as he says himself, the ears and eyes of the head office. In addition to the shops in the Netherlands, there are also 9 physical shops in Belgium and a webshop, which is managed from the central warehouse in Belgium. Johan: "Together we work hard to make children's dreams come true.
Unpredictable staffing due to corona
Corona has made many things unpredictable. This also applies to ToyChamp because of the various lockdowns and the closure of all the shops. Johan: "Last year we were unable to renew a lot of contracts because it was difficult for us to estimate when we would reopen. Nobody ever expected that the first lockdown would take so long. This also had quite serious consequences for the retail sector. Many people who had to wait to be reinstated took a different decision and went into care, for example. Those people left and you don't see them coming back."
But even before Corona, there were problems with staffing. Especially for certain locations. Johan: "Now that we work with FreeFlexers through Temper, we see that it is possible to fill our rosters at several previously difficult locations."
Need for freeflexing as a new way of working
Johan: "You pay FreeFlexers more, because they are zpp'ers. But with FreeFlexers we can fill the rosters at different locations. FreeFlexers are flexible: if they can't work, they don't have to work. They sign up for a shift when they want to. We have noticed that there is a great demand for this way of working, which we hear back from the shop floor, but also from friends and acquaintances who sign up themselves." Johan feels that corona has reinforced this.
FreeFlexers can choose when and where they take jobs, so they are not tied down to certain hours or locations, for example. Johan: "We first had a boy running around in Amersfoort, who moved to Apeldoorn for his studies. After four weeks, we also put jobs for our location in Apeldoorn on the platform, so this boy, with the experience gained in Amersfoort, could immediately pick up jobs in Apeldoorn. This is, of course, fantastic for both parties."
Flexibility for the FreeFlexer and the client
Just as the use of Temper is flexible for FreeFlexers, Johan says this is also the case for clients. "Both parties have no obligations. If you need people, you just open a shift. Besides, you can choose who comes to work for you. You see the profile of the people, so no one is anonymous. Afterwards, you can also give each other a review, so there are no secrets or surprises. Of course, in some cases there can be a mismatch, but in this case you can say goodbye to each other in a normal way."
Tips for good cooperation
Johan: "We have now learned from experience that when someone visits for the first time, it helps to start the conversation first. To explain what they can expect and whether they can decide after just one day whether they like it and want to sign up more often. In this way, we can make agreements and the FreeFlexer can also pick up other work. Our managers have taken this on board very well, which makes the relationship between the managers and the FreeFlexers very pleasant and good."
Security as the biggest advantage for ToyChamp
The biggest advantage according to Johan is that they could always start the day, even if there are downtime. "Temper has shown us that people can certainly be found even in difficult locations. Who also want to be in flexpool . This gives us security that we can basically always run a store with people."
