Jelle (19) is trying to work as much as possible again after the lockdowns caused by corona, in order to save up for his language trip to Cape Town. His other side job does not give him as many hours as he would like, so that's why he also works shifts via Temper. He would also like to get a shift as a barista, but since this requires some experience, he didn't find one yet. Through the Temper Academy he followed 2 workshops. And with success. At the barista workshop, he learned a lot about making the perfect coffee and foaming milk. And thanks to the hospitality workshop, he can now effortlessly walk with three plates or a full tray, pour wine and set tables. Skills that allow him to apply for barista and serving jobs with more self-confidence.
What does your life look like today?
Jelle: "I stopped studying, so I have a lot of free time, which means I can take on more shifts. And next year I'm going on a language trip to Cape Town for 3 months with students from all over the world! You're required to speak English constantly, which will help me to become a fluent English speaker after that."
In order to save money for his language trip to South Africa, Jelle now works a lot. Jelle: "It is great that Temper allows you to be very flexible, so you can decide for yourself when you want to work and when you don't. For example during holidays. You have this all under control. This was very relaxed during the last European Championships. Because as a football fan, you don't want to work when the Dutch team is playing of course."
How did you decide to work via Temper next to your side job?
"It started with my brother, who had done a few shifts on the platform and told me that it was easy to earn money. I then also signed up to see what jobs you could get. When I had worked a shift and it went well, I started doing more and more."
Jelle currently works mainly as dishwasher and cleaner, but would also like to take on shifts in the service sector and as a barista. The workshops that he has followed through the Temper Academy are helping him on his way. "I saw the workshops come up and thought 'I have to be there', so I signed up for both the barista and the hospitality workshop. I learned a lot at both and also met other FreeFlexers! The latter was also an additional advantage for Jelle: "This way we could exchange our experiences a bit, which was great fun."
How do you feel about working in different places?
If you work via the platform, you decide where you work. This can be at a beach club one day, a coffee bar the next, but also in a chic restaurant. So you'll go to many new places. Jelle: "It's fun to meet new people and to discover new locations. You see a lot and can gain experience in different ways. But coming across a new situation and environment every time does require some effort." As a FreeFlexer, you do need to be able to adapt easily to new situations and people. Something you can learn a lot from, but which can also be challenging.
Tip from Jelle for upcoming FreeFlexers
Jelle: "The best tip I can give is: just do it. It always works out well. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but in my experience most clients give a good explanation and they help you in the beginning."
