Nowhere else in the Netherlands will you find a hotel so close to the sea. You can stay the night, have a meeting, dine, exercise, visit the wellness centre or have a drink at the nearby beach club Badhuys. And all of that on beautiful Vlieland. General Manager Niek explains why our platform works perfectly for such a versatile location.
Can you tell us about the beach hotel Seeduyn?
"Strandhotel Seeduyn is in my opinion one of the most beautiful hotels in the Netherlands. Unlike other hotels on Vlieland, our hotel is located on the first row of dunes overlooking the sea. You constantly have the feeling that you're on holiday. We have 151 hotel rooms with a view of the dunes or the North Sea. There are also 34 spacious flats, suitable for the whole family."
Why did you start using our platform?
"We had a structural staff shortage. Temp agencies simply could not supply any more workers. We heard about your platform from our colleagues in Amsterdam. Out of curiosity, we put a few shifts online. We assumed that there would be no applications because we were on an island. The opposite turned out to be true. Within a few hours we already had responses to our jobs."
Wellness centre WellCome Wellness.Finding FreeFlexers seems difficult when you are on an island. How do you try to be attractive to FreeFlexers?
"We offer the FreeFlexers who come to work for us free accommodation and reimburse the boat and train costs. The condition is that a FreeFlexer picks up two shifts. These are often weekend shifts. They arrive on Saturday and then work Saturday and Sunday shifts of about 8 hours. Because we are right on the beach, they can enjoy the beach or explore the island after their shift. We notice that for many FreeFlexers this is also a 'weekend break'."
You plan the shifts far ahead. What effect does that have?
"A lot of applications, haha. We did not expect that so many people would want to come to Vlieland for a job. After the pilot with the first shift, we adjusted our strategy. The shifts have to be on the platform at least two weeks in advance. Otherwise, it is difficult to find a FreeFlexer and to arrange the boat and train travel."
Would you recommend the platform to other hospitality business owners?
"Absolutely. You have found a gap in the market. It's clever how the platform responds precisely to the wishes of millennials and hotel and restaurant owners. Soon I will be moving to a new WestCord location in Groningen. I'm also going to be a General Manager there. I will definitely be using your platform there."
