No less than 85% of young hospitality professionals are open to volunteer work, research by Temper shows. After successful pilots with Amsterdam Cares and Ronald McDonald House VUmc Amsterdam, the hospitality platform has set itself an ambitious goal for 2018.

Before the end of the year, 10,000 volunteer hours must be turned in every month through Temper, says co-founder Niels Arntz. The digital noticeboard can help organisations that run on or around volunteer work to reach a new generation. Arntz: "We can lower the threshold for tens of thousands of professionals who earn extra money in the hospitality industry. I think it's great that we can use the power of our platform to promote voluntary work and thus make a direct contribution to our society."

Ronald McDonald House VUmc Amsterdam

Volunteers are essential to Ronald McDonald House VUmc Amsterdam - without them the House would not exist. They not only take care of the household chores, but also make the House cosy. Ronald McDonald House VUmc Amsterdam employs 130 volunteers who come to help weekly or every other week. Assistant Manager Reina Hazenberg: "We have experienced the arrival of the volunteers through Temper as very pleasant. It was a friendly group with real professionals who brought atmosphere to the House. The volunteers knew what they were doing, so we did not have to worry. As a result, our guests enjoyed a delicious buffet. We notice that more and more young people are open to volunteer work, the cooperation with Temper is a great initiative to get in touch with this group in an accessible way."

Amsterdam Cares

Amsterdam Cares is part of the Netherlands Cares Foundation and offers flexible volunteer work in Amsterdam, focusing on the encounter between young Amsterdammers and people from vulnerable groups. Through Temper, the freelancers can respond to activities such as playing bingo with elderly people, cooking for lonely neighbours, and giving language lessons to migrants. City manager Tes Schmeink: "We are very happy with the cooperation with Temper. Temper's platform is the perfect place for (potential) volunteers and young people for whom our contract is of added value. In 2017, Amsterdam Cares has worked over 20,000 hours with more than 3,000 volunteers. It is incredibly beautiful that together we can make so much local impact!"
