Temper Partners with leading UK logistics companies in the first-ever training to enhance rider skills for safer streets.
London, UK - 7 November 2023
Temper, a digital noticeboard connecting freelancers with shift work in the UK, is collaborating with top logistics companies to develop the first cargo bike training of its kind in London. The program, in partnership with leading last-mile logistic companies Urb-it, Zedify, Xenier, with Delivery Mates joining in early 2024, is active across various Temper client locations. Available at no cost to all freelancers who apply, the program assesses participants against a standardised checklist, and upon completion, riders earn a training certification that can then be seamlessly integrated into their Temper profiles. This initiative has already led to a five-fold increase in trained cargo bike riders on the Temper platform.
The demand for eco-friendly delivery solutions in UK cities is at an all-time high. Cargo bikes, trikes, and quadricycles have emerged as key solutions to tackle air quality and congestion problems. With the sector growing rapidly and the peak-demand season of Black Friday and Christmas approaching, there is a crucial need for skilled cargo bike riders who can navigate and ride safely in traffic.
"Participating in this program will positively contribute to last-mile deliveries by focusing on safety and skill development. It aligns with our commitment to environmentally friendly and efficient urban logistics." - Brett Hermon, London City Operations Manager Urb-it.
Mastering cargo bike delivery differs significantly from traditional biking or motorcycle riding due to the added complexity of handling heavy loads up to 300kg. It requires confidence in navigating traffic, ensuring rider and public safety, and meeting the strict standards set by delivery companies.
"As a freelancer, I find it so valuable to be part of this program that enhances my skills and promotes urban safety. It's an opportunity for professional growth while contributing to a cleaner and safer urban environment." - Sita, freelancer.
Temper's strategy involves creating a shared pool of certified riders, providing clients with a reliable workforce during peak delivery times. These riders possess the confidence, safety awareness, and professionalism to excel in city deliveries.
"Temper is committed to expanding its roster of proficient cargo bike riders to meet growing demand. We aim to be an ally for last-mile delivery companies seeking to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and capacity." – Alex Rose, General Manager Temper UK.
The next training session is set for mid-November in London, with plans to extend these sessions to Manchester and Birmingham.
