What types of employment exist within the platform economy? On Thursday 16 November 2017, the Social Affairs and Employment Committee (SZW) held roundtable discussions with experts and representatives of companies about working for online platforms such as Thuisbezorgd, Werkspot or Temper. The employees of these platforms also had their say.
IntroductionEnzo Salatiello has been working as an independent hospitality professional through Temper since spring 2016. Watch his introduction in the excerpt below

Full incomeEnzo is currently studying full-time, but has managed to earn his income by working through Temper. The platform takes a bit of acquisition away from him, which would otherwise take up a lot of his time.

Disability and pensionIf you are ill, you do not earn any income. Like many self-employed people, Enzo reports sick less often and less quickly. In case of incapacity for work, he has made his own arrangements - outside of the platform - in the form of a mutual fund. As a 24-year-old, building up a pension is not relevant, as research among the entire Temper database has shown: 78% is not consciously concerned with disability insurance and pension saving.

Working off platformTemper is a platform where supply and demand come together. Enzo states that if there is no supply of work, Temper does not restrict work outside the platform.

Competitive positionEnzo is very confident about the future: 'In my sector, as an independent working cook, there are about six to eight thousand structurally open vacancies'. With his entrepreneurial attitude and flexibility as a core value, he has an edge over colleagues with permanent contracts.

ConfettiA satisfied Enzo: 'The catering companies that hire me don't exactly welcome me with confetti. I come to help them out.
