Jeroen is the general manager of hospitality affairs at Intratuin. He started at Intratuin 7 years ago and now oversees four locations. The company significantly scales up using Temper during peak periods so they can handle the immense rush both in the store and in the hospitality areas. In this article, Jeroen shares his insights on the effective use of the Temper platform and the importance of flexibility in their workforce management.

Sustainability and quality as core values

At Intratuin, sustainability and quality are top priorities, from growing flowers to the emissions of Intratuin trucks. Jeroen explains, "Every decision is assessed based on our sustainability and quality standards. We constantly strive for improvement." Additionally, the facilities that create a complete experience, such as the hospitality sector, are an important distinguishing factor for Intratuin. A reason for visitors to return!

Well-being and quality are priorities for the team

Intratuin is a true family business, where great value is placed on the well-being and quality of the team. Jeroen emphasises, "It’s important for us to create a team of people who can rely on each other." He also notices the growing need for flexibility among his team. Intratuin is adapting to remain competitive and attractive for all generations of workers. "Fewer people are choosing to work full-time. To attract and retain new talent, we must also be flexible as a company."

Did you know: 35% of all Gen Z workers say they only want to work for employers where they can have influence over their schedule.

Challenges and solutions in workforce planning

Completing the workforce planning is a challenge many companies are currently facing, including Intratuin. Jeroen also sees differences between the various locations: "It's hard to pinpoint where this difference comes from, it could be due to the accessibility of the location or certain subcultures within the locations." Initially, to maintain full staffing in the store and hospitality areas, they used a traditional temp agency. A number of years ago, they switched to Temper, which provides them with more flexibility and control, even allowing for last-minute adjustments.

Flexibility, speed and convenience as key benefits

There are three main reasons why Jeroen and his team have embraced the use of Temper: flexibility, speed and convenience. This started during the selection process. Jeroen says, "There were no lengthy appointments and discussions needed. I could try out the platform right away and it worked well. Now, 5 years and four locations later..."

Flexibility:

Through Temper, Jeroen finds the freedom to act without the limitations often encountered with traditional temp agencies. The flexible cancellation policy and the ability to seamlessly adjust schedules, even at short notice, ensure streamlined workforce management. Jeroen emphasises the flexibility Temper provides, stating:

"With Temper, you can adjust work hours according to your own needs. For example, it's easy to have one person start at 9:00 am while another is only needed from 1:00 pm. Last-minute adjustments can also be made quickly, which is very convenient."

Speed:

Due to the platform's flexibility, Jeroen mentions that he can quickly address unexpected challenges in the schedule, a task that is often not possible or takes longer when dealing with an intermediary, such as a temp agency. Jeroen says:

"It sometimes happens that I suddenly need more people, which I can then easily and quickly arrange through the platform. With a temp agency, it's different; you have to decide things further in advance."

Convenience:

The various features the platform offers make it a user-friendly tool for Jeroen, simplifying their planning processes. An example of a functionality is the Flexpool, where a group of valued freelancers are listed, receiving a notification as soon as a new shift is posted. He shares:

"If people are enthusiastic themselves, after working a shift with us once, they usually let me know. They want to come back next time, which is of course very nice to hear."

Intratuin's Good Employer Practices

The fact that FreeFlexers (freelance workers) like to return to Intratuin is also reflected in the numbers. They give Intratuin an average rating of 4.85 out of 5 stars. This shows good employer practices and is evident in the applications Intratuin receives for their shifts or Flexpools (groups of trusted FreeFlexers).

After a pleasant conversation with Jeroen,, it has become clear that flexibility has become an essential factor for the company's success. The ability to respond quickly and efficiently to changing staffing needs, especially during busy periods, continues to allow them to offer visitors the experience they are accustomed to from Intratuin – with quality and sustainability at the forefront.
