In today's world, the need for a fair and sustainable labour market is more important than ever. With an increasing number of people adopting a flexible working method, it is essential to ensure that decent work is provided to all. But what exactly does that mean?

According to the International Labor Organisation (ILO), decent work guarantees a fair income and provides workplace security and social protection. It embraces personal development, social integration and strives for equal opportunities and treatment for everyone.

To foster a shift economy that is more equitable, sustainable, and drives economic prosperity, it all starts with fair compensation. Fair wages contribute to workers' financial stability, well-being, motivation, and overall work quality as freelancers. For businesses, offering fair compensation helps attract top talent and promotes professionalism, thereby paving the way for a more balanced and prosperous society.

Promoting Equality and Sustainability

We are committed to cultivating an environment that ensures freelancers working via Temper receive a strong and fair wage. To achieve this, we work with public organisations to help address the issue of income control for independent workers in the Netherlands. By closely examining what constitutes a living wage in relation to the current average minimum wage, we post an hourly rate of €18 for freelancers, above the hourly wage between the ages of 20 - 25.

Addressing Unhealthy Competition

Intense competition, often referred to as "the race to the bottom," poses a threat to freelancers' livelihoods. This constant pressure to lower compensation rates forces them to accept inadequate wages to secure jobs. This jeopardises their financial stability, work-life balance, and overall well-being. To combat this issue, we have established a baseline compensation for freelancers, ensuring fair pay, attracting highly skilled professionals, promoting professionalism, and securing the long-term viability of the shift economy.

Creating Supportive Work Environments

Fair compensation is just one aspect of a healthy work environment. It is equally important to foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding, where individuals are valued for their unique contributions to the labour market. In addition to fair compensation, businesses can invest in employee training and development programs, encouraging personal and professional growth. Freelancers can take the initiative to engage in training and skill development to improve their abilities while adhering to industry standards and best practices.

Creating a promising future for all requires collective efforts. By uniting freelancers, businesses, policymakers, workers' representatives, and shift platforms, we can challenge existing norms, advocate for fair compensation, and shape a better future.
