What types of residence permits do we accept?

If you’re from outside the European Economic Area (EEA), you’ll need a valid residence permit to work in the Netherlands. It’s possible that in addition to your residence permit, your employer may also need to apply for a work permit. As an online platform, we’re not able to assist with that process.

Permit

If your residence permit includes the note “Arbeid vrij toegestaan’ ‘TWV niet vereist’ (Work freely allowed, no permit needed), you’re allowed to work in the Netherlands without needing a separate work permit. We generally accept these types of permits, but there are a few exceptions.

Exceptions

Some residence permits come with specific conditions. For example, you may only be allowed to work in the field or profession for which the permit was issued. Since we’re unable to verify these details or check for individual exceptions, we do not accept the following types of residence permits in any case:

• Study
• Kennismigrant (Highly skilled migrant)
• Arbeid als zelfstandige

We can’t make exceptions for this, even if there are no additional conditions for your personal situation. But, if your status changes in the future, of course we’d be happy to see you back!
