This is how it works, from registration to payment.
On our platform, you can find both freelance and employed shifts. You can recognise them by the icon on the shift page. Much is the same, but a few things work slightly differently. Read below how freelance and employed shifts work, from registration to payment.
1. Sign up
For employed shifts, you’re temporarily employed by Temper. When you sign up for the first time, you’ll sign a framework agreement so that a work contract can be created for each shift.
You can also decide to apply the payroll tax credit. Doing this means you’ll pay less income tax directly each week instead of receiving a discount during your tax declaration.
2. Apply for shifts
Pick a shift that looks like a good fit for you. The company chooses the best candidate based on skills and ratings.
Keep an eye on your application status in the platform. If you’re accepted for a shift, we automatically cancel your application for the shifts that overlap. But you could still be accepted for a shift in the same day that doesn’t overlap. If you don’t want this, withdraw your applications.
Each employed shift has a cancellation period of 48 hours. This means you can cancel your shift up to 48 hours before it starts without any consequences. After that you can be reported as a no-show and receive strikes.
3. Work the shift
You’re trusted with responsibility, so take it seriously.
Be on time and follow the dress code. Not meeting these requirements or missing a shift can have consequences.
4. Complete the checkout
Done with your shift? Fill in the checkout: note your start and end times and your break. You have 7 days to complete this. The company you worked at also has 7 days to review it. Once approved, your hours are finalized and ready for payment.
5. Get paid
Payments for employed shifts go out every Friday. Depending on when your checkout is approved, this could be as soon as the Friday the week after your shift. You’ll receive a payslip so you know exactly what you earned. Vacation pay for employed shifts is paid directly with your weekly wage.
6. Taxes
Super simple. At the start of the next year, we send you a year-end statement for your income tax. No hassle with your admin!
Good luck finding your (first) shift!
1. Registration
Not yet a freelancer? You can try out one freelance shift without needing to be registered as a freelancer. After that, you’ll need to apply for a VAT ID. If you already have one, you can add it to your account directly so that the invoices will be created correctly.
2. Apply for shifts

Note the cancellation term for this shift. After this period, you can no longer cancel without consequences. As a freelancer, you can always find a substitute.
3. Work the shift
You’re your own boss, you’re in charge of your shift, so handle it professionally.
Make sure you arrive on time and follow the requested dress code. Keep in mind that if you don’t meet the agreements or miss your shift, there may be consequences, such as a no-show or a negative rating.
4. Complete the checkout
All done? Time for checkout. After the shift you can enter the hours you’ve worked and if you’ve had a break during the shift. You have 7 days to do this.
The client then has 7 days to review your checkout. Once approved, your hours are invoiced and paid out via the payment method you selected.
5. Get paid.
Once your checkout is approved, the invoice is created automatically and the payment process starts.
Chose DirectPay? You’ll get paid within minutes after the client approves your checkout. Didn’t choose DirectPay? Then you’ll need to wait until the client completes their payment.
6. Taxes
Keep your admin in order so you’re ready for your tax filings. As a freelancer, you’ll deal with VAT returns every quarter and income tax once a year, make sure you know how it works.
Good luck finding your (first) shift!
