What am I entitled to if I’m sent home early?
A shift can sometimes end earlier than planned. This can happen, but there are a few rules to keep in mind. These only apply when the company decides to end the shift early.
For employed and freelance shifts, the rules are a bit different.
You’re always entitled to at least 3 hours
If the company sends you home early, you’re paid for the hours you actually worked. But, there’s a minimum: you’ll always receive pay for at least 3 hours.
Example:
- You were scheduled for 8 hours but only worked 2 hours. You’ll still be paid for 3 hours.
You’re entitled to at least 50% of the shift
A client may send you home earlier, but they must always let you work (or pay you) for at least 50% of the shift. If you haven’t worked at least half of your shift, you can still check out for 50% of the scheduled time. Example:
- You have a shift from 10:00 to 18:00 but are sent home at 13:00. You can check out from 10:00 to 14:00.
If you both agree together to end the shift earlier, you can simply check out the actual hours worked.
Was the full shift cancelled?
Then you don’t complete the checkout, but the client needs to cancel the shift via the platform. This way, you’ll get the option to claim 50%, but you won’t receive a rating.
