Am I paid if the company cancels my shift?
It’s possible that the company no longer needs you for a shift. They can cancel you last-minute, but you’ll still be entitled to (partial) payment for the cancelled shift. What rules apply depends on the type of shift.
Payment
If a company cancels your employed shift outside the cancellation window, you are entitled to full payment for the shift. Once they cancel you through the app, your shift will be cancelled, but the payment will still be processed, and you can expect it Friday the week after your shift.
If the company hasn’t canceled your shift through the platform yet, contact them and ask if they can do this.
Sent home early
If you’ve started working but it turns out you’re not needed for the full shift, the company can send you home early. For employed shifts, you must have had the opportunity to work for at least 3 hours.
If you're sent home early, you should still be paid for at least 3 hours, unless you agree to log only the hours you actually worked when checking out.
Always discuss this with the company before leaving the location.
If a company cancels your freelance shift outside the cancellation window, you are entitled to compensation.
50% claim
For freelance shifts, this means you should be able to claim 50% of the scheduled shift.
As soon as the client has cancelled you, the option to claim will become available. If the cancellation hasn’t been processed through the platform yet, contact the company and ask them to do so, so you can claim your payment.
Sent home early
If you’ve started working but it turns out you’re not needed for the full shift, the company can send you home early. For freelance shifts, you must at least have had the opportunity to work half of the shift.
If you’re not needed for the full shift, you should still be paid for half of it, although you can always agree with the company to only fill in the hours you actually worked at checkout.
Always discuss this with the company before you leave.
