Every shift has a cancellation term. Within that deadline, you can always cancel your shift without any problems.

But once that deadline has passed and you can’t make it last-minute, it’s important to take action as soon as possible. What you need to do next depends on the type of shift you have scheduled: employed or freelance.

Employed shift

For employed shifts, the cancellation term is always 48 hours. Here is what you need to do if you want to cancel less than 48 hours before the shift starts.

Cancel your shift via the app

This way the company knows you can’t make it and they can look for someone else to work that day. If you expect to be unable to work for a longer period, for example because you are sick? Then also cancel all other upcoming shifts.

Inform the company as soon as possible

This helps keeping a good relationship with the company and gives them time to find someone to cover the shift. In the end, they decide if your late cancellation counts as a no-show, so keeping them in the loop really helps.

Consequences of a last-minute cancellation

If you cancel at the last minute, the client can mark you as a no-show and you might get a strike. Receiving multiple strikes may lead to being blocked from applying to new shifts.

If you are indeed reported as a no-show, you’ll get one chance to respond and explain your side of the story via the app. After that, the company will make the final decision to confirm or remove the no-show.

Freelance shift

You remain responsible for fulfilling freelance shifts, even if something comes up at the last minute. But you are always free to find a substitute. Here’s what you should do:

Look for a substitute

You are responsible for finding a substitute yourself. You can search for a substitute through the platform.

Contact the client

Are you unable to find a substitute, for example because the shift is about to start? Then it’s important to also contact your client. Good communication is key, this way they know what’s going on and you might even be able to find a solution together.

Consequences of a last-minute cancellation

If you cannot find a substitute, the client may report you as a no-show.

Checkout

After the scheduled shift, you can fill in during the checkout that you did not work and explain why. This report will be send to the client and they decide if they still want to report you as a no-show or not. The better you communicate with them before the shift, the smaller the chance of getting a no-show.

The client agreed to cancel, how do I complete the checkout?

If the client agrees to cancel your shift, you can indicate during checkout that you did not work. Your absence report will be shared with the client, who can respond to it. If no further action is taken by the client, the shift will be cancelled without consequences for either party
