UberEats: what are the safety guidelines?

As a delivery worker for UberEats through Temper, your safety on the road is a top priority. Whether you're using a bicycle or a motorized vehicle, it's your responsibility to follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and professional experience.

  • Always wear a helmet: Helmets are strongly recommended for all riders and required if you're using a motorized vehicle such as a scooter or moped. A properly fitted helmet offers essential protection in case of an accident.
  • Use a safe and legal vehicle: You may use either a bicycle or a motorized vehicle for deliveries. If you're using a scooter or moped, make sure your vehicle is legally registered and that you hold a valid insurance policy (e.g. WA-verzekering in the Netherlands). Without proper insurance, you're not covered, and this could affect your ability to continue working.
  • Follow traffic laws: Always obey local traffic regulations. Stop at red lights, use hand signals, yield to pedestrians, and park your vehicle safely during pickups and drop-offs. Do not block bike lanes, sidewalks, or ramps.
  • Stay visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially in low light or poor weather. Your vehicle should have working front and rear lights at all times.
  • Keep your vehicle in good condition: Regularly check brakes, tires, lights, and general roadworthiness. A well-maintained bike or scooter reduces the risk of accidents or breakdowns.
  • Avoid distractions: Never use your phone while riding or driving. If you need to check the app or navigate, pull over to a safe location first.
  • Secure your deliveries properly: Make sure food is packed securely in your delivery bag and kept upright to prevent spills or damage.
  • Be alert to your surroundings: Stay aware of traffic, pedestrians, and other riders. Use extra caution at intersections and in busy areas. Avoid using headphones or anything that limits your hearing or focus.

By following the safety rules, you help keep yourself and others safe while making deliveries. Remember that it is your responsibility to follow these guidelines. For more details, check out Uber’s Community Guidelines.

How to withdraw an application or cancel a shift

Withdrawing a shift application or canceling a shift is easy. Whether you’re still waiting for a response from the company or have already been accepted, you can manage this through your dashboard.

Withdraw an application

If you’ve applied for a shift but no longer want to work it, you can go to applications under My work and click on the shift. On the shiftpage you can withdraw your applications.

Cancel a shift

If you’ve already been accepted for a shift, you can cancel it as long as the cancellation deadline hasn’t passed. Go to your upcoming shifts in My work, click on the shift, and cancel it from the shift page. Read here what to do if the cancellation window has closed.

Automatically withdraw your application

To avoid being accepted at the last minute, you can choose automatic withdrawal when applying for a shift. If you haven’t been accepted by the selected time, your application will automatically be withdrawn.

Tips to get chosen for shifts faster

When you sign up for shifts through Temper, the company where the shift takes place picks the person they think is the best fit. You’re usually not the only one applying, so it’s possible you won’t always get chosen. The good news? There’s plenty you can do to boost your chances.

Create an attractive profile

Your profile is the first impression companies get of you. It’s how you stand out from the crowd. Make sure your profile looks professional. Think about a great profile picture, a clear and engaging bio, and make sure you include all your relevant work experience. Find some more tips on creating the best profile possible in this article.

Apply for multiple shifts at once

The more shifts you apply for in a day, the higher your chances of being accepted. If you’re chosen for one shift, any overlapping applications will automatically be canceled.

Keep in mind: you can still get chosen for other shifts on that same day. As long as there are at least 59 minutes between two shifts. So always keep an eye on your open applications to avoid being accepted for two shifts on the same day.

Apply for relevant shifts

Only apply for shifts that match your skills and experience. Companies are looking for someone with the right skill set. The better your profile fits, the higher your chance of being chosen.

Would you like to work as a server, but lack the experience? Start with shifts in the same branch, like a dishwashing shifts. This helps you gain experience and build a stronger profile. The more experience you have in a certain field, the better your chances!

Aim for great ratings

A good personal rating really improves your chances of getting accepted for shifts. Here are a few ways to do that:

  • Prepare well: read the shift description in advance so you know exactly what’s expected and you know you can do it.
  • Always be on time: first impressions count!
  • ‘Own it’: take responsibility for doing a great job. Be proactive and show initiative.

Go for less popular shifts

New to Temper or don’t have many ratings yet? Apply for less popular shifts, like early mornings. This boosts your chances of being accepted, helps you build up ratings, and lets you make new connections with companies. Once you’ve made a great impression, you’ll be chosen more often for the popular shifts too!

I can’t make it to my shift

Every shift has a cancellation term. Within that deadline, you can always cancel your shift without any problems.

But once that deadline has passed and you can’t make it last-minute, it’s important to take action as soon as possible. What you need to do next depends on the type of shift you have scheduled: employed or freelance.

Can I work a shift that has not been placed on the platform?

A company might ask you to pick up an extra shift, for example if you’re already on site and they ask whether you’re also available to work the next day. That’s great, of course!

Just make sure the company posts the shift on the platform so you can sign up before it starts. If you’re not accepted for the shift through the platform, there’s no official agreement, you’re not insured and we won’t be able to help if something happens during your shift.

I was not paid for my employed shift

If you think you are missing an employed shift payment, don’t worry! Here are a few reasons why it might not have come through yet:

Timing of the shift:

You will always be paid for a shift in the following week the earliest. For example, if you worked on a Monday, you will be paid on the Friday of the following week, not the first Friday after your shift. This also depends on when you and the client have finalized the checkout.

Checkout not completed

The hiring company you worked at hasn’t finished the checkout process yet. They have 7 days to wrap it up before your checkout gets automatically accepted. So, you might need to wait a bit longer.

Checkout timing and cut-off time

Companies have 7 days to complete the checkout. If this checkout is performed before Wednesday 10:00 in the morning, and your shift was last week, you will receive payment that very Friday. If it’s after that cutoff time, you will have to wait until Friday next week. Read more about when you get paid in this article.

IBAN issues

You might not have shared your IBAN, or you could have provided the wrong one. Double-check to make sure everything’s correct. You can contact support if you need to have your IBAN changed.

Something went wrong

If everything seems fine and you’re still waiting, it’s possible something went wrong on our end. Reach out to support, and they’ll help you sort it out.

We hope this helps clear things up!

Do I need a VAT ID or KvK number?

You can find two types of shifts on our platform: employed and freelance. A VAT ID or KvK number (Chamber of Commerce) is only needed for freelance shifts, since you work these as a freelancer. For employed shifts you do not need a KvK number or VAT ID.

How many hours can I work?

You have plenty of flexibility in choosing your shifts, but there are certain limits to keep in mind. These rules are different for freelance and employed shifts.

How can I change my personal information?

You can do update your personal information in your Profile (bottom right)

Click on your name at the top

  • Edit your work experience and bio
  • Add or remove languages
  • View your ratings and attendance rate

This is the information companies can see when you apply for a shift.

My contact details

  • Update your email address and phone number

Financial overview → Payment details

  • Update your invoice details like your VAT ID for freelance shifts

You can’t change your home address or IBAN yourself. Please contact support and we’ll be happy to help you with this.

What is a transaction statement?

Once Finqle has processed the payment for a freelance shift, you can download the transaction statement from your financial overview. This shows exactly which shifts were paid together and any fees applied if you used DirectPay. Each overview has a unique number starting with the letter T.

Two pages

  • Page 1: Shows your total earnings, any factoring fees, and the total amount paid and on which date. This matches the amount that appears in your bank account.
  • Page 2: Provides a detailed list of what you earned per shift, linked to the corresponding sales invoice (reference number M) and any DirectPay fees, linked to the purchase invoice (reference number F).

How do I know what shifts I've been paid for?

Have you received a payment and want to check which shifts you were paid for? You can easily find this in your financial overview.

Profile → Financial overview → Payments

Simply match the amount you received in your bank account with the payment amount shown. Freelance and employed shifts are paid separately; read more about each below.

Do I get paid for overtime?

Once your shift is done, you can complete the checkout by filling in the exact hours you worked, including any breaks. So if you worked more than your initially scheduled shift time, you’ll get paid for all hours worked.

Employed shifts

If you worked overtime during your employed shift, those hours might be paid at a higher rate. This depends on the relevant CAO (collective labour agreement) and how many hours you worked that day.

Your overtime will be settled by Temper on your payslip.

For freelance shifts overtime surcharges do not apply.
